Best AI tools for NZ tradies (2026)

The best AI tools for NZ tradies in 2026, grouped by job - assistants, job-management AI, accounting AI and more - with indicative NZD pricing.

There are hundreds of AI tools shouting for attention, and most are useless for a tradie. This guide cuts it down to the handful that actually help a NZ trade business - grouped by the job they do, with indicative NZD pricing - so you can pick one or two and ignore the rest.

This guide is general information, not financial advice. Prices are indicative as of mid-2026 and change often - check each vendor's site. TradeFlow is not affiliated with the AI tools listed here.

The short answer

For most tradies, two things cover 90% of the value: a general AI assistant (ChatGPT or Claude) for writing and admin, plus the AI features already built into your job-management and accounting software. Everything else is a nice-to-have. Start there before you pay for anything specialised.

What each one actually gives you

General assistant (ChatGPT / Claude). The workhorse. Drafts quotes, chases invoices, writes marketing, summarises paperwork. If you buy one tool, this is it - and the free tier is enough to start. Full walk-through: how to use ChatGPT in your trade business.

AI inside job-management software. The apps you may already use are quietly adding AI - auto-drafted quotes, smart scheduling, job note summaries. You often get it at no extra cost. Compare the main NZ options in best job management software for NZ tradies, or look at AroFlo and Tradify specifically.

AI in accounting software. Xero and MYOB use AI to suggest invoice coding, flag duplicates and reconcile faster. Let it suggest; you approve. It still will not replace an accountant for NZ tax and GST - use IRD and our GST calculator for that.

Transcription. Dictate on the drive home, get a typed job note. Your phone's built-in dictation is free and good enough for most.

AI image and marketing tools. Canva and Adobe Express can generate social posts, tidy before/after photos and knock out a basic logo. Handy for the marketing you keep putting off.

How to choose without wasting money

  1. Start with what you have. Check whether your job app and accounting software already include AI - most now do.
  2. Add one free general assistant. Use it daily for two weeks before paying for anything.
  3. Only pay when a tool saves you real hours. If it does not clearly beat doing it yourself, drop it.
  4. Keep customer data private. Do not feed personal details into public tools (Privacy Act 2020).

Frequently asked questions

What are the best AI tools for tradies in NZ?

For most NZ tradies the best starting stack is a free general AI assistant (ChatGPT or Claude) for writing and admin, plus the AI features already built into your job-management app (Tradify, ServiceM8, AroFlo) and accounting software (Xero, MYOB). Add specialised tools only once you have a clear time-saving reason.

Do I need to pay for AI tools?

Not to start. The free tiers of the main AI assistants cover quotes, emails and marketing, and the AI inside software you already pay for costs nothing extra. Only upgrade to a paid plan (around NZD $30/month) once you are using AI every day and hitting the free limits.

Is there an AI tool that does quotes and invoices for tradies?

Yes - most job-management apps now draft quotes with AI, and accounting tools like Xero use AI to speed up invoicing and coding. A general assistant can also draft the wording. For the actual figures, use a proper tool such as our invoice generator rather than trusting AI with the maths.

Which AI tool should I try first?

A free general assistant like ChatGPT or Claude. It is the most flexible, costs nothing to trial, and covers the writing and admin jobs that eat most of a tradie's office time. See how to use ChatGPT in your trade business to get going.
